This checklist is based on Namecheap's official instructions; it has not been performed on the visitor's account. DNS values differ by mailbox service and subscription date.
Identify the authoritative DNS provider
Before editing Namecheap Advanced DNS, check which nameservers the domain actually uses. When DNS is delegated elsewhere, changing a record in the registrar panel may have no effect. Write down the old zone values and keep a recovery path.
Separate site records from mail records
A and AAAA records usually direct a hostname to IP addresses; CNAME records alias hostnames. MX records route incoming email, while SPF, DKIM and DMARC support email authentication. A change that makes the website point to a different host must not accidentally remove active email records.
Choose the correct Private Email instructions
Namecheap publishes different setup paths for domains using its own nameservers, its hosting nameservers or third-party DNS. Choose the guide for your situation and copy the records displayed for your specific mailbox service. Legacy DKIM record names can differ by subscription date; verify rather than using a generic screenshot.
Test inbound and outbound delivery
After updating records, test sending and receiving through accounts outside your domain. Check whether DKIM signing and SPF alignment are working. Avoid publishing multiple unrelated SPF TXT records for the same host; consolidate sending sources according to your vendor's documentation.
Move hosting without a silent email outage
If moving from Namecheap hosting to another provider, document website and mailbox records separately. Change the website destination only when prepared; if a nameserver switch is needed, reproduce the verified mail records in the new zone first and perform a post-change check.
Account, renewal and recovery checklist
Document who controls the registrar, DNS provider and mailbox subscription. Keep multi-factor authentication on, track renewals, and include domain and email charges in the true cost of a website.
